Clean Room Man Lift FAQs
Cleanroom MEWPs for aerospace, semiconductor, and pharmaceutical manufacturing — the questions buyers ask most.
What ISO cleanroom classes do Bailey clean room man lifts support?
Bailey clean room man lifts are engineered for ISO Class 5 through ISO Class 8 cleanroom environments (Federal Standard 209E Class 100 – Class 100,000), depending on configuration. Particulate generation is controlled via sealed bearings, brushless motors, low-emission paints and coatings, smooth-surfaced fabrications, and HEPA-compatible exhaust paths. For ISO 1–4 environments, Bailey can quote bespoke configurations subject to compliance review.
Why are clean room man lifts required for aerospace and semiconductor manufacturing?
Standard aerial lifts shed particles from chains, hydraulic cylinders, scissor pivots, motor brushes, and abrading paint. In a semiconductor fab or aerospace clean assembly area, even sub-micron particles can ruin a wafer batch or contaminate sensitive components. Cleanroom-rated lifts use sealed actuators, low-VOC coatings, brushless drive systems, and stainless or anodized fabrications to meet airborne particulate limits required for ISO compliance.
How is a cleanroom-compliant aerial lift different from a standard lift?
A cleanroom-compliant lift typically has: brushless DC drive motors instead of brushed; sealed hydraulic cylinders with low-shed seals; non-shedding wheels (polyurethane or similar); a smooth, non-porous, easy-to-wipe finish on all surfaces; minimal exposed cable runs; ESD-safe options when required; and validated low-particle-generation testing. Bailey provides documentation on particulate counts at maximum operating speed for compliance audits.
Are Bailey clean room lifts ESD-safe?
ESD-safe (electrostatic discharge) configurations are available on request. They include conductive wheels, grounding straps, anti-static platform decks, and validated surface resistivity in the 10^6 – 10^9 Ω range. ESD compliance is critical for semiconductor wafer handling and sensitive electronics assembly.
What working heights and capacities are available for Bailey cleanroom MEWPs?
Bailey clean room man lifts are available from compact 18-foot platform heights up to 65-foot+ articulating booms, with platform capacities from 250 lbs to 1,000+ lbs. Specific models include the T66CR, T100CR, T120JCR, T135CR, A65CR, A80JCR, A125JCR, and TL65CR — see individual product pages for full specifications.
Can a Bailey clean room lift also be explosion-proof?
Yes. Bailey routinely combines cleanroom and explosion-proof certifications in a single machine for aerospace and pharmaceutical customers whose facilities have both contamination-control and hazardous-location requirements (e.g., aircraft fuel cell paint bays inside class-controlled hangars). These combined-certification lifts are fully custom and require longer lead times.
